LEGAZPI CITY (10/31/09) – Southern Luzon Technological College Foundation Inc. (SLTCFI) was acclaimed as the over-all champion during the Ibalong Street Presentation last October 30, 2009. The Street Presentation is the main highlight of the vibrant month-long Ibalong Festival celebration. The said festival relives Bicol's early beginnings as depicted in the Ibalong epic during the pre-Spanish times. It tells of mythical heroes Baltog, Bantong and Handyong who fought the villains and ferocious wild beasts that roamed the land of Ibalon and who transformed it into a bustling civilization that is now the Bicol peninsula.

SLTCFI which is a strong supporter of the Ibalong celebration ardently prepared for the said presentation and students from SLTCFI main campus and Pilar branch energetically participated. The participants in their colorful costumes impressively executed their dance routine that brought enjoyment to the spectators.

SLTCFI got awards from all the categories hence being adjudged as the over-all winner of the competition. The awards garnered by SLTCFI contingent were the following:

1st place – Warrior Queen

1st place – Street Dancing

There were 11 contingents that participated and competed in this year’s Street Presentation representing the schools and institutions from Legazpi City as well as from other parts of the Bicol region.

The majestic Mayon Volcano served as a theatrical back drop as Legazpi City’s thoroughfares were turned into a vast stage for folk art with the participants’ impressive portrayal of the Ibalong epic.

The Ibalong Festival celebration also featured other activities and merriments that include IT events, beauty search, street parties, art exhibits, trade fairs, evening concerts, and food fests.

SLTCFI Celebrates its 15th Foundation Day

Southern Luzon Technological College Foundation Inc. (SLTCFI) celebrated its 15th foundation anniversary in conjunction with the school’s Intramurals from September 1-3, 2009. The event commenced with a motorcade at 8:00 A.M. starting from Embarcadero de Legazpi grounds passing through the main streets of Legazpi City, Daraga and Albay and ending at Albay Astrodome.

Employees from the BPO Incubation Center of SLTCFI in Embarcadero also joined in the motorcade.

The event was followed by the cheer dance competition held at Albay Astrodome which also marks the start of the inter-campus Intramurals.

Spectators are awed by the participants’ execution of dance routines in their remarkable cheering attires while doing refreshing and electric moves to the tune of the latest dance hits.

There were eight competing teams during the intramurals – four teams from SL Legazpi City main campus and another four teams representing all the other SL branches, to wit, Anislag, Pilar, Pio Duran and Tiwi.

Adding a dash of glitz and glamour to the momentous event was the search for Mr. and Ms. SLTCFI.

Candidates competed for the best in production attire, best in uniform, best in swimwear and evening wear, the Mr. & Ms. IT, the Mr. & Ms. Intrams, and the much coveted Mr. & Ms. SLTCFI.

The production outfits donned by the candidates were nothing short of marvelous with the dazzling attires that exude majesty and fantasy as they depicted the gods and goddesses in Philippine folklore.

The candidates also modeled in their uniforms.

Among the most applauded part of the pageant was the swimwear competition where it heats up the competition even more.

The audience was also given an additional treat of being able to witness the candidates walk the stage in their gorgeous evening wear.

The candidates’ wit and intelligence were tested during the interview portion as hard to answer questions that command the best answers are always on the way to the title.

The auspicious three-day event is instrumental not just in fostering camaraderie between competing teams but it also served to unite and tighten the bond of all students from the various SLTCFI branches. This year has been a remarkable event in SLTCFI history as this was the year that three other SLTCFI branches were established and all of them actively participated in the school’s various events.
